Key Criteria for Selecting Your List
According to research done by the National Institute of Health (NIH), complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) use spans people of all backgrounds. But, according to surveys conducted, some people are more likely than others to use CAM. Overall, CAM use is greater by:
- Women than men
- People with higher educational levels
- People who have been hospitalized in the past year
- Former smokers, compared with current smokers or those who have never smoked.
Defining your target audience is steeped heavily in the science and structure of marketing, using models and terms like psychographics (e.g., how do people think and respond), demographics (e.g., where do they live, how old are they), segmentation analysis (e.g., man or woman). A sample target audience definition might look like this:
- Geographic area
- Age Range
- Income Range
- Education completed
- Net Worth
- Home Value
- Gender
- Address only, phone number only, or both
- One contact per address, or all contacts at a particular address
You can also use historical profiles of your existing customers to paint a picture of what your best customer looks like, feels like, smells like or you can rely on research such as the NIH data quoted above. What ever method you apply, it can and should be used as the basis for leveraging proprietary databases to find prospects that emulate that data.
Beware of the marketing databases and list sources that you leverage. A database is only as good as the information contained with in and the integrity that is used to gather it. Finding the right list is not an easy task. Which is precisely why AGS has ensured you can obtain your list directly through our trusted sources.
While it may require a little bit of extra planning on your part and a few extra dollars to purchase the list, when you design a mailing list that mirrors the people most likely to respond to your communications, you greatly increase the chances of getting a good response to your campaign.
